Embodied Peace

Nicole Coppi | NOV 4, 2024

From a yogic perspective, embodied peace refers to a state of tranquility that is experienced not just mentally or emotionally, but physically within the body. It signifies an integration of mind, body, and spirit, where a sense of calmness and serenity is felt in every part of one's being.

The key aspects of embodied peace are...

  1. Breath Awareness: Breath awareness can be cultivated through breathing techniques such as pranayama, which helps to regulate the central nervous system and promote inner calm. In a moment of stress, it can be as simple as bringing awareness to your breath and lengthening your inhales and exhales.
  2. Presence: Breath awareness can naturally lead to being fully present in the moment which cultivates a sense of peace, allowing practitioners to let go of thoughts, stress, and worry. In a moment of stress, feel down into your legs and feet; get connected with your body and out of your head.
  3. Mindfulness: As you become more present, mindfulness naturally comes online. This is a state of watching your thoughts, feelings, and emotions without being taken hostage by them. The more present one is in the body, the more natural it becomes to be the observer of your experience and the easier it is to stay connected to an inner peace and calm.
  4. Alignment: We are aware of physical alignment in yoga postures (asanas) that can lead to improved energy flow and vitality. In a similar way, alignment can be not only physical, but also aligned to our intention of peace. The more we practice coming back to peace and calm, the more it is available to us.
  5. Meditative States: Engaging in daily meditation facilitates a profound connection to inner stillness, allowing us to establish ourselves in stillness and bring it with us throughout the day. Over time with practice, the fruits of our practice stay with us and life can be a waking, moving meditation.
